An Age of Cowards: The Unhealthy Obsession with Safety

I think this has in part to do with the human condition. Anyone with enough intelligence who takes the time to reflect will see that humans have a obvious predisposition to groupthink (perhaps groupfeel is the more accurate term).

It takes training to fight against this part of us. We are born sheep, but inside of each of us is a seed that, if cultivated properly, will turn sheep into lions. Evidently and unfortunately, the vast majority never reach this stage.

Regrettably, the past two centuries have witnessed the decline of all the dignified qualities that characterise the lion. Instead, the sheep is now the prevailing character of the modern man. The modern man by himself, much like the sheep, is meek, compliant, and spineless. Harmlessness and conformity are his virtues. He believes that all the good things in life should simply be plucked from a tree, hence the rise of "progressive" values, meaning in part, dependency on the government (high taxes, welfare states, etc). Where toil through sweat, blood and tears are concerned, he believes hard work is a unfortunate but necessary means to an end, but not an end in itself.


I would also like to introduce myself. I found this site on Quora, and I'm glad I did. I am surrounded by enough "progressives" and "liberals" in my life as it is. Hidden gems take time to find.
